Police warning locals to lock their doors and windows and watch out for cold callers

Police Community Support Officer John McVea said it was important that residents in Dalton and Barrow took extra care.

He said: "Police are asking locals to be aware of bogus males who are purporting to be delivery drivers calling at houses either delivering parcels or catalogues for a neighbour.

"The males are usually smart dressed and wearing possibly a body warmer and is happening during the day. The males have entered insecure residential properties, so please keep your property secure."

If you are suspicious of any individual and he or she has called at your house do not hesitate to contact police by ringing `101. In case of emergency ring 999.
