These amazing youngsters camped out overnight to raise awareness of mental health in their community.
The teenagers are part of Inspira’s NCS Summer scheme which sees young people really getting involved in projects close to their hearts.
This bunch have helped the Barrow-based charity raise nearly £1,670 by helping out at Mind in Furness Summer Soul in the Park event last month.
Last night they set up camp on The Green, at South and North Row, Barrow, between 7pm and 7am on August 8 to raise awareness of mental health.
The NCS Group 5 Arkless explained why they picked the charity: “We wanted to raise money for Mind as many of our family members and friends suffer from mental health problems.”
Mind in Furness Chief Officer Karen Dobson: “We have all been overwhelmed by the support we have received from all the youngsters who have volunteered for us recently via the National Citizenship Scheme. It’s encouraging to see these young adults offering so much to their local community and to us as a charity. Mental health affects everybody, young or old so it’s good to have these young people highlighting the work we do in our local community.
“They helped us raise £1,670 by giving up a Sunday to help us at the amazing Soul In the Park Event and this total will increase with their fundraising efforts at their “Sleep Out.”
“As an organisation we are all immensely grateful and proud of their efforts and hope they will continue to spread the word about what we do.
“Our Community Engagement and Fundraising Officer Suzanne has acted as a point of contact for these youngsters and is happy to speak to other groups who may want to get involved in future events and activities”
